How Could You?
To the person who ran me over on a lonely country road:
How could you be so uncaring to not even take me to a vet?
How could you leave me in a ditch to die?
Did you stop to think about what would happen to me?
Thankfully there are kind people in the world.
Someone who cared enough to investigate the movement in the ditch.
Someone who had compassion for me and saved my life and my soul.
The vets say that I have a crushed pelvis and femur. But that with a little care I will still grow up big and strong. I have had surgery and am already feeling much better. The vets say that I have got a few weeks of recovery ahead of me- lots of crate time and cuddling on the couch :) Despite what people have done to me I still love everyone I meet. I love to snuggle and be with people. So this recovery thing should be a breeze. :)
I am also thankful to the wonderful people at the Mortgage Center, and at Jaded Tattooing for their recent fundraising for Windy City. Without that the rescue would have been hard pressed to afford my surgeries. <3
--------------------
We believe Ally to be a Collie/Border Collie cross. The Veterinarian guessed her age to be around 9 months. Ally will be recoveing from her injuries for about 8 weeks before she will be available for adoption. As part of her recovery she will be on crate rest, and her open wound will need to be cleaned a few times a day. It is important that she is gets only limited activity at this point so she can heal properly. Ally has a gentle soul and is a complete sweetheart, she wants nothing more than to be petted. It breaks our heart to know that she likely spent at least a few days in that ditch. The infection in her foot was quite severe.
We are looking for a quiet foster home for Ally. Someone who will be willing to commit to helping Ally get better. Someone who will show Ally that people can love. The first few weeks will be a fair amount of work- keeping her foot clean, and helping her outside. After that it will be much easier, and the hardest part will be convincing her to be quiet and calm. :)

Arrow - ADOPTED
Arrow is a one year old sheltie.
He is a little shy and timid when you first meet him, but it doesn't take him long to warm up.
Arrow LOVES playing with other dogs and would be a great second dog. He has very good dog manners and knows when other dogs are not interested in play yet is ready to go the moment they change their minds.
For a sheltie, Arrow is very quiet. He will occasionally bark during play, but even then, it isn't very often. He is housetrained and also good with cats.
Due to his timid nature he would probably be more comfortable in a quieter household.
For more information on Arrow, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Alfie {Papillon/Dachshund Cross}
Alife is a sweet, young papillon/dachshund cross.
He can be a little shy to start, but once he gets to know you he is all cuddles and wiggles.
For a little guy, Alfie has a lot of spirit. He is brave enough to take on two shepherd puppies at once! Alfie also enjoys going to the dog park and doesn't stray too far from his foster family or their dogs.
Alfie's favourite game is to play tug! But he also loves snuggle time on the couch. His personality is a great little mix of playfulness, spunk and sweetness.

Molly {Schnauzer Cross} - ADOPTED
Molly is a young, sweet, loveable and playful schnauzer cross.
She loves to go for walks. She doesn't bark much and has been friendly with every dog she's met! Molly is great with kids and would manage a busy, loud and active household just great.
Molly is housetrained and very bright. But she is also very stubborn and she is convinced that if there is food around, it must be for her. She has even tried to join her foster family at the table for dinner a few times! LOL. Don't worry, they are working on teaching her proper table manners (i.e. - you lay down on your bed while people eat).
Molly would be a great "all around" family dog. If you are looking for a dog that can take whatever activity you want to throw at them - car rides, camping trips, watching the kids soccer game, BBQ's, etc, Molly may be the girl for you!

Fido {Chihuahua Cross} - ADOPTED
Fido is a super cute, super cuddly, young chihuahua cross.
He listens well, is good in a kennel at night, and is housetrained.
Fido is also good with other dogs, and tries to play with cats (without too much success at this point!).
We've also discovered that Fido loves to fetch. He brings it back and will place it right in your hand. Maybe there is a little golden retriever in his heritage too. LOL
Like many chihuahuas, Fido can be a little shy and nervous with sudden noises and movements and he would do best in a home with older kids.
For more information on Fido, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Cynder {Terrier/Dachshund cross?}
We are really guessing on what Cynder's mix is, but does it really matter? She is awfully cute! She is quite small and is about the size of a small dachshund. Cynder is a few years old and came to us from the same area as Peanut and Sidney.
Cynder is a snuggler. She loves to be with you on the couch and will burrow into you, the blankets and the pillows until she has found the "perfect spot".
She likes to play with little dogs and cats (we haven't exposed her to big dogs or kids yet) and she loves to fetch.
She can be a little shy when you first meet her, but she is a very happy and sweet girl once she gets to know you.
She is crate trained and house trained and is a clever little girl who is very fast at learning new words and new routines.
PS - Her head is not as big as these photos seem to show! LOL She is actually quite well proportioned.
For more information on Cynder dog, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Third Times a Charm?
Piper. Where to begin? Every time anyone comes in contact with this dog they have the same reaction, why is she still in rescue? A little history. Piper originally came from a bad situation where children were being taken from the home. The kind people at CPS didn't want to give this sweet dog to the shelter so they called rescue. She was adopted out to a well intentioned home but was eventually surrendered to Windy City Rescue.
Whenever we have an event to attend, an interview to do, or an appearance to make, Piper is our go to gal. From the children's festival, to a burning tower, to a water rescue boat, Piper is calm, confident and just a happy girl. She has been in rescue way too long. If you know of someone looking for a great companion or you yourself want to meet Piper, please give us a call! Operators are standing by.

The Mortgage Center
We had an amazing day today with the awesome people from the Mortgage Center! Several months ago they offered to put on a garage sale and donate all the proceeds to Windy City Canine Rescue! They had collected 4 trailers, one basement and a hallway full of donations from the generous people in our area. It was a ton of work for them to load, unload, display, sell and pack away all of the items in the plus 30 degree weather and we can't thank them enough. Through it all they were smiling and having a great time bartering with all the customers. We don't have a definite total yet, but the preliminary count has us smiling! Thank you again to the Mortgage Center and everyone who came out to support our rescue! We would encourage anyone looking for a mortgage to give these great people a call! For more information please click on the "Mortgage Center" title of this post.

Woody {Rough Collie}
Woody is a very sweet, 10 year old Rough Collie.
He has been loved his whole life and it shows. He is friendly with everyone - adults, kids and dogs.
He is PERFECT on a leash. He just walks nicely at your side and doesn't pull or pee on every little thing he sees. He is just happy to be out and about. In fact, I think leisurely strolls are his favourite thing in life. All you have to do is say the word and you'll have his attention.
If you are looking for a sweet mellow companion who isn't pushy, demanding or a lot of work, Woody may be the guy for you. He will follow you around and keep you company no matter where you are or what you are doing.
