Billy {Shetland Sheepdog/Pomeranian Cross} - Adopted

Billy is a very sweet, shy little dog who has had no interaction with humans in the first three years of his life. As you can imagine, living with people in a house has been very scary, but Billy has been so brave! He has decided to make small leaps of faith every day, and this is how far he has come in just 7 days:

Day 1: completely stiff and refused to walk, with low ears and tail tucked between legs. He looked so scared!

Day 2, 3, 4: Decided that people aren’t all that bad. He will roll over for a belly rub, and walk up the deck stairs to look into the kitchen. When he’s outside by himself, he will play with toys and drag blankets around the yard but will run if you try to catch him.

Day 5: He actually wagged his tail when I came home from work, and will come back into the house if you leave the door open.

Day 6: he licked my hand and walked toward me for a treat. Day 7: Will sit on the couch and look out the window!

Although he still has a long way to go, Billy is a very smart, adorable little guy who has figured out that living with people in a cozy bed with regular meals, toys to play with and belly rubs is a pretty good life!

Mandy {Cocker Spaniel} - ADOPTED

Mandy is a cute and cuddly, 10 year old cocker spaniel.

She is a little overweight and LOVES to sleep and cuddle.  She generally moves around the house seeking out better and better sleeping areas.  :)

She likes to go for ambling walks and enjoys smelling all the neighborhood "sights".

She currently has pretty runny eyes and a dry nose, but we are working at fixing that for her.  A proper diet, a little weight loss, and possibly some medicine will have her cleaned up in no time.  She'll also be getting a groom in the next week to tidy up her fur!

Mandy would make a great companion for someone who is looking for a slower paced dog.  She isn't very demanding - she just wants to be with you and be petted!  Did we mention she loves to cuddle?

Billy {Sheltie/Pomeranian Cross} - Adoption Pending

There once was a man from Montana who lived in a small town with his 74 dogs.  One day, the man suddenly passed away and the dogs had no one to look after them. Unfortunately this isn't a fairy tale, it's a true story. You can read more of the details here if you are interested. 

All the dogs were surrendered to the Lewis and Clarke Humane Society and have been making their way in 1's and 2's to various rescues across the States and Canada.  

As you can imagine, the dogs are a little uncertain about all the changes. They've spent all of their lives outside with limited human contact.  They have never been on a leash, never worn a collar, never walked down a sidewalk, etc.  Heck they never probably even had names.

Despite all this, they are quite friendly dogs, if a little shy.  They've all been vaccinated, spayed/neutered, dewormed, treated for fleas and given baths.  Quite an accomplishment in just over 2 weeks!

We met a volunteer in Shelby, MT on Sunday and picked up three of the dogs.  Two of them have gone off to the Alberta Sheltie Rescue and one little boy is staying with us until we find him a new home.

We snapped off a few pictures of Billy before he went off to his foster home, but we'll be sure to get more once he adjusts to the changes in his life.  

We'll also get more information out as he reveals his personality to us.

  

Billy would do best in a quieter home and probably one with another dog or cat to keep him company.  As he grew up outside, he is not house trained and not used to a leash, but we will be working on those!

Just 'Cause

Mya (ADOPTED) is still doing well and for some reason is STILL with us!  She is such a fun loving dog.  Just thought we'd share a few more photos of her...

On Our Paws...I Mean Toes

Rescue is a funny world, it always keeps me guessing. I have been involved for several years now, and I'd like to think I know a thing or two. But the thing with rescue that you learn over time is that it is never predictable, and you never really know a thing, let alone two.

As foster coordinator, the foster homes like a guesstimate as to how long their foster dogs will be in rescue. This is probably the hardest question I get. Some dogs that I think will fly through end up sticking around for longer, and some I think will be tough to adopt out we are screening several applications for???

Little Molly is one I was sure would be snatched up quickly. She's small, house trained, good with dogs, cats and kids, loves to snuggle, walks nicely on a leash and isn't yappy. Pretty much the perfect foster dog and those don't come around too often. But as I type this she is curled up on my bed waiting for me to come back and snuggle. Not that a week is a long time in foster, but the lack of interest puzzles me. I can't say I mind really, I have been very sick this last week and she has been the perfect companion. Most of my dogs fall asleep with me, but she is usually the only one left after long hours in bed. The only time she gets up is to ask to be let out, as she hasn't mastered the dog door yet.

So the mystery continues, but I'll enjoy her company while she's here. It's not often we get to foster anymore, with a sassy terrier, and a dominant male in my pack it's hard to find fosters that don't disrupt the balance, ok almost impossible. But if you are interested in a great little dog who in her short time here has proven her loyalty and compassion, please call and we can chat. If there wasn't a baby on the way it just might have already been too late!

Molly - Min Pin/Chihuahua Cross - Adopted

Molly was a little worried you would all make fun of her ears.

We assured her that they were one of her cutest features and that she should flaunt them. Really? Yes really. See?

But they aren't the only thing she has going for her.

Molly is a three year old Min Pin/Chihuahua cross. She is house trained, good with other dogs (although doesn't really play with them), good with kids and good with cats. She loves to snuggle and gets very excited at even the hint of a walk.

Molly is a pretty low key dog who doesn't require too much exercise and would be great for someone looking for a companion in their retirement years or a family that isn't super active. She'll be in heaven if you are able to provide a warm lap, lots of love and daily walks around the neighborhood.
