Perfect Piper

I can't believe that no one has snatched this girl up yet!!! Piper is a wonderful dog, who could excel at anything you wanted her to be.

A family pet? For sure!!! She adores children, loves to hang out, and would like nothing more than to snuggle with her family. She loves camping, and going for car rides, and would love to have a family to call her own.

An active companion?? Definitely!! Piper is super athletic and is an experienced jogger. She also LOVES to run alongside a bike, and would make a great hiking buddy. She also would excel at agility if someone wanted an agility buddy.

Simply put Piper could be anything you wanted her to be. She is so adaptable and is just a total sweetheart. She wants to do whatever is going to make you happy.

She continues to have fabulous house manners- never pushy and hyper in the house. She will lay on her pillow, or find herself a toy to play with and be content like that. She has her favorite toys though and will hide them around the house just in case you are ever ready to play fetch! She is ready for action whenever you are! She is a great fetcher, although prefers her wubba over a tennis ball. Piper is all about toys that squeak. :)

She has had quite a lot of training and is super obedient. She is still distracted around other dogs but is getting better. She is understanding what "leave it" means and that it is not an option. Her walking manners have improved 110%.  She has even had playdates with new dogs and continues to improve socially. She will even let another dog steal her ball!!! Here are a few photos from a walk in the park with a friends dog the other day. Notice how small the other dog is? Piper was great with her and often times the other dog got the ball first...now that's improvement!

waiting for the throw...

Piper Sit. :)

finding the ball...it's in there somewhere!

get the ball, get the ball....

what a good girl staying close...

ice beard. :) Piper loves the snow!!!

Lily Update - Adopted

Lily is doing really well.  She is still a fun-loving, fetching machine.  She can even be a little demanding when it comes to playing fetch and wanting attention.  :)

She went on a trip this weekend with her foster mom and did really well meeting new people in a new environment. She isn't as quick to accept men, but if they are sitting, she is fine with them.  Maybe she doesn't like their big size?

She is definitely a dog that you can't skimp on her exercise.  Unless of course, you enjoy playing at 2am when Lily decides it is time to get up!

Piper Update

Piper continues to do great.  She loves to play fetch - or rather her version of fetch - which is more like grab the toy and then not let it go again while you try and get it back from her.  LOL

But the highlight of any day for Piper is meeting new people.  She LOVES people - big, little, young or old.  Her short little tail just goes nuts when people are around.

Piper is doing great on walks.  A quick "leave it" reminder when other dogs are approaching is enough to keep her focused on you and not on the other dogs coming her way.  She can pass right by other dogs without even a backward glance.

For more information on Piper, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Marley {Heinz 57} - ADOPTED

We aren't really sure what is in Marley's gene pool.

What we can tell you is:

She is a lot of fun.

She is energetic.

She can jump!

She is gorgeous.

She is good with older kids and other dogs and is housetrained.

She is obedient.  She knows how to sit, lay down, shake a paw and speak.

Did we mention she can jump?

Unfortunately, she not only jumps for a toy, she also can jump over solid wooden fences so Miss Marley should not be left unattended in a yard.

Marley is an energetic girl who needs a family who is dedicated to giving her enough exercise.  She loves to go for walks (and is pretty good on leash) and to run around the yard and play fetch.  She also loves to wrestle and would do great with another playful dog in the house.

For more information on Marley, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Skijoring

Mya (ADOPTED) has been doing AMAZING skijoring with her foster mom and foster siblings.  They have been doing so well in the races they are actually winning money! How great is that?

This great photo was taken by Dave Parker last weekend at the Bootleg Sled Dog races in Kimberly.  I'm not sure how they all manage to look so happy!  It is hard, but obviously very fun, work for everyone.

Mya has been with us for way, way too long.  She is an amazing dog that really needs to find her forever home.  If you could help us spread the word about her, we'd really appreciate it!

For more information on Mya, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

A Pet's Ten Commandments

A friend at work sent me this, most are very true.

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS......... (INCLUDING KITTIES TOO)

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment.
You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can t bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

Cuter Than You Think - ADOPTED

Suzie is learning lots about boundaries and how to respect both peoples' and other dogs' space. She just loves to be as close as possible but now she just mostly climbs into my lap, instead of trying to get right up on her foster mom's shoulders :)

Her little wiggle butt is the cutest thing ever - it's almost like it's not even attached to her body and just does a little dance all on it's own. She's ALWAYS happy (except when having her picture taken!) and I often can hear her tiny tail thump-thump-thumping away from where ever she is in the house.

She initiates tons of play and loves the zoomies. She is still so awesome through the night, and now bolts into her kennel to wait for her treats.

She's greeted all new people nicely, and snuggled right up to my mom when she came to visit this weekend. She listens well when I ask her to stay away from Oliver's food and respects me when I take things away from her.

Poor Suzie.  This is the second time we've taken pictures of her, and they just never do her justice. It is always cold, and she is always a little uncertain of the clicking camera and because it is so cold, we can't give her enough time to warm up! She is seriously cute and spunky and you don't get to see that in these photos.  To really get to know her, you'll just have to arrange to meet her for yourself!

For more information on Suzie, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Suzie (ADOPTED) and Piper Update

Suzie is still doing great. She is gaining some weight (she was a little skinny when we first met her) and has settled in really well. Once she knows you, she trusts you to do whatever you want to her - poke, prod, take her food, etc. She is a super happy little girl and always come wiggling over when you call. She loves to race around with her foster brother but is very mindful when her foster mom asks for a stop to the shenanigans. She loves to snuggle with people and other dogs. Her foster mom frequently finds her sleeping right on top of her foster brother! Suzie is so easy, quiet, snuggly and lovely AND gives the sweetest little nose kisses, we are all wondering - How come nobody has snatched her up?

Piper continues to do great at her foster home.  She went to an obedience drop in class last week and had a blast.  She loves to work and always gives you 100%. Piper is great in the house and she never asks for much.  She is just happy to just spend time with you.

For more information on Suzie or Piper, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.
