When dogs are adopted, we do our best to keep in touch. Partly so that we can make sure everything is going well and if not, we can try to help out, but also because we miss the dogs and we just want to "hear their voice again". We thought we'd share some of the updates we get with you.
Max is doing great. Not a day goes by that he doesn't make me laugh. Not just a little chuckle, but full belly laugh. And the louder I laugh, the goofier he gets. He was either a comedian in his previous life or he's practicing for his next. I've decided to take him to agility for some bonding time. I think we'll both enjoy it. One area we really need to work on is greeting people. For some reason he thinks doing acrobatics and talking loud makes a good first impression. Him and Ali have become such great buddies. They do have their little doggie moments, but don't we all. I've attached a picture of the two of them taken during one of their bonding moments. Max has definitely found his forever family and home.

One Month In....
Thanks to all of your support, in our very first month, we've already had 4 dogs adopted (one of them never even made it to the blog!) and are currently helping 4 more find their new home!
And that isn't all that we've done. We have:
We hope to be able to purchase more supplies in the near future. We'll be buying more little things like DAP diffusers which can help relax dogs during the stressful transition but we are going to have some bigger expenses too. Roxee is going to be getting a dental while getting spayed and if any of you have had to do this for your own pets, you know it isn't cheap. But it is a worthwhile expense, especially if you are Roxee!
And that isn't all that we've done. We have:
- Met 8 amazing people who are willing to open up their hearts and their homes as foster parents. This has to be the hardest job in rescue and generally has the highest drop out rate, usually because they end up adopting one of their foster dogs. :) In fact, Max (our very first dog) was technically only going to be fostered by his new mom but I think it only took her 3 days to decide he had already found home.
- Made friends with businesses all over town and they are helping us spread the word about the great dogs we have looking for homes.
- Rescued 3 amazing dogs out of a "kill-shelter" and given them a second chance at life.
- Helped out 5 families who were desperate to find a safe place for their cherished pets to go. Unexpected life changes is one of the biggest reasons that dogs are surrendered to rescues and shelters.
- Had Kaity, Luna, Cougar and Max spayed and neutered, vaccinated, microchipped (and adopted!) and Mya, Roxee, Missy, and Sammie all have appointments coming up.
- Purchased basic start-up supplies for our foster homes such as dishes, collars, leashes and of course food for the pups.
We couldn't have done all this without your support.
Thank You
Your donations in both time and money make a huge difference to us and we are truly grateful for all that you have done. Please keep spreading the word about the great dogs we currently are helping - Roxee, Mya, Missy, and Sammie.

Our Poster Boy
I just thought we should introduce the poster boy of the Windy City Canine Rescue.
This is Max. He is a border collie/sheltie cross . He was our first official dog and he single-handedly kicked things into high gear. When we first took him in to help him, we weren't actually set up yet but when he went to his new home just a few days later, we were ready to roll. So thanks Max, for making things happen and for being such a great first dog to start with. We hope every dog finds their new forever home as quickly and as effortlessly as you!

Our Goal
Whenever we adopt out a dog, we have a single goal - to place the right dog, with the right family. And we made a perfect match for Max. I ran into Max today at the dog park and as you can see, things are going "just fine".
As cheesy as it sounds, we are always thrilled to see dogs find their "happily ever after".

Luna {Running Wild} - Adopted!
Luna went out for an off leash run the other day and we discovered a few things.
Wide open spaces make this girl happy!
She can really motor when she puts her mind to it.
She is not scared of the water.
She can do a mean imitation of Max!
For more information on Luna, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.
